| Bristol Bay Telephone operates a combined microwave and cellular site on top of Big Mountain, Alaska to serve the Bristol Bay area. The site is accessible only by helicopter for 10 months of the year, so fuel delivery can be very costly. The site is powered by two 1.5 kW Bergey turbines on 40 ft. guyed lattice towers, with a propane generator providing back-up. The site experiences winds in excess of 120 mph and very heavy icing on a regular basis. | ||
