Bergey Windpower Case Study

Norman, Oklahoma

 Small Business, Utility Bill Reduction

R&M Mechanical Contractors is a small construction firm located in Norman, Oklahoma.  They installed a Bergey 10 kW wind system to reduce their utility bills in 1984.  The wind system is installed behind one of their shops on an 80 ft. self-supporting (SSV) tower.  The R&M site is very close to the Norman airport and right inline with one of the main runways.  Therefore, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) through their regional office in Ft.Worth, Texas had to approve the 80 ft. tower.  This filing took about two months, but was not difficult or expensive.  The tower does not have any aircraft warning lights on it.

The Bergey Excel-S wind turbine produces ~1,000 kWh per month, which reduces R&M's utility bill about $80 per month.  The co-owners of R&M Mechanical Contractors, Ron & Jim Hames, both have Bergey 10 kW units installed at their homes.
