Superior Sod in Tehachapi, California is a significant
regional producer of premium variety sod for landscapers and homeowners
throughout Southern California and Nevada. In addition to landscaper
contractors, Superior Sod supplies sod to Home Depot, Lowe's, and Star Nursery 7
days a week using its' extensive fleet of trucks.
When Superior Sod built its new headquarters building in the summer of 2001 they specified a Bergey 10 kW wind turbine to reduce their electric bills and to show that they cared for the environment. The wind turbine is installed on an 80 ft. tilt-up guyed tower that was reclaimed from a nearby windfarm project that removed obsolete wind turbines from the 1980's. The wind turbine is connected to Southern California Edison though the circuit breaker panel inside the Superior Sod headquarters. Superior Sod received a rebate covering 50% of the turbine installation cost from the California Energy Commission.
